Trae SOLO Standalone: An AI Assistant That Does More Than Write Code
Trae SOLO standalone is not just a coding tool for programmers. With its MTC mode and Skills Marketplace, people who can't code can also use AI to automatically finish everyday tasks like disk cleanup, file organization, and data analysis.
If your impression of AI coding tools is still stuck at “helping programmers write code,” the Trae SOLO standalone may refresh it.
The recently updated SOLO standalone boils its core change down to one sentence: from AI Coding to AI Development. It is no longer a tool just for programmers; it is an all-round assistant that anyone can drive with natural language. You don't need to know code — you just need to say clearly what you want done.
Two Modes: Write Code or Get Work Done — You Choose
SOLO standalone offers two working modes:
- Code mode: an AI coding environment for developers, supporting parallel multi-task development and running tasks remotely
- MTC mode (More Than Coding): a task-execution mode for everyone — clean up disks, analyze data, generate reports; just describe the need in natural language
For most non-programmers, MTC mode is the feature truly worth a look.
What It Can Actually Do
Disk Cleanup: Handled in One Sentence
Most Mac users have been there: “System Data” is eating a huge chunk of storage, and there is no way to see what it actually is. Before, your options were third-party cleanup tools (plenty of them baitware) or learning terminal commands yourself.
Now you can just tell SOLO: check my storage space, find the things hogging it, and tell me what can be deleted.

It writes its own script to scan the whole disk, sorts folders by size, lists every space-hogging “culprit,” and marks which ones are safe to delete, which are caches you can clear, and which are system files you must not touch.

The whole process, from describing the problem to cleanup finished, takes five minutes.
File Organization and Document Generation
Downloads folder a chronic mess? One sentence, and it sorts and organizes things for you. It will even proactively remind you to delete large files that aren't worth keeping.

Document generation is practical too. Give it a topic and it first asks about the key details, then produces a fully structured report — not hollow AI boilerplate, but content with real reference value.
Safety tip: back up your files before letting AI operate on anything important.
Skills Marketplace: Giving AI Expert Abilities
The Skills Marketplace, newly launched on April 2, is the most important feature of this update.
Before this, SOLO was a general-purpose smart assistant — able to do everything, but nothing deeply enough. The Skills Marketplace changes that logic:
Every Skill = a packaged bundle of workflow + domain knowledge + tool calls
After installing one, you only need to say “what to do,” without explaining “how to do it.” For example, once the “spreadsheet analysis” Skill is installed, toss it a data file and it automatically recognizes fields, cleans the data, and runs statistical analysis.

The marketplace is open — Skills don't just come from the official team; users can build and upload their own. When the specific domain capability you need isn't on the market yet, you can package one yourself.
Also Available on the Web
SOLO standalone supports cloud functionality: the web version works right in a browser, with the same experience as the local build. For people who constantly switch between devices, that's convenient — no need to install software everywhere.

Toolin's Take
Who it's for: content creators, operators, product managers, data analysts, founders — anyone who daily needs lots of “run a script” or “automate this” done but can't program. Programmers can also get a solid development experience in Code mode.
Who it's not for: professional developers who need extremely precise control. Code mode is improving, but for deep engineering work, Claude Code and Cursor are still the more mature choices today.
Core strength: MTC mode drops the barrier to “solving problems with code” to zero. You state the need, it writes the code, you use the result. You never need to understand what it wrote — only verify that the result is right.
Clear limitation: complex tasks (say, multi-platform data scraping) can't be done in one sentence and take repeated debugging. But that is precisely what makes it a tool that can genuinely iterate and get work done, not a toy that only demos “one-sentence miracles.”
Pricing: available on both PC and web, with basic features free to use.
