Tool details

Human or Not turns the Turing test into a 2-minute casual match: you are paired with a random opponent, chat for 120 seconds, then vote on whether that opponent was a human or an AI. No registration and no fee to start — it compresses “can you spot a machine?” into a single gut-feeling call.

Core capabilities

  • 120-second text matches: random pairing, a 40-second cap on each turn, and voting only unlocks after you send 4 messages, which blocks instant votes and dead air
  • Three ways to play: Classic one-on-one, Group Chat where you talk with two others and then label each one, and Image Game where you judge real photos against AI-generated ones
  • No in-house foundation model: the AI side runs on third-party LLM APIs, and what the site actually builds is the persona setup, matchmaking and anti-cheat layer
  • Turner Index: a public real-time dashboard showing the human win rate, games played today and a breakdown by country, open to outside verification
  • Human Coins and leaderboards: messages burn coins and correct guesses earn them back; an account gets you onto the leaderboard, keeps your record and enters streak challenges
  • Anonymous, no sign-up: you can start a game without filling in anything, and an account exists only to save your record, leaderboard standing and chat history

Use cases Casual users who want to spend a spare moment testing whether they can see through an AI, and short-video audiences, are the best fit; AI literacy classes and workshops also use it as an icebreaker, and a two-minute round is just long enough to carry one round of discussion. If you are after deep conversation or long-term social relationships, this design is not for you.

Unique advantages Most competing products offer only a single mode; Human or Not is unusual in putting 1v1 chat, three-player free-for-alls and image judging into one site, plus a data dashboard anyone can verify. It does not train its own foundation model — the moat is mechanism design plus matchmaking and anti-cheat engineering, not model capability.

Editorial review The product is better finished than most peers: the 120-second pacing and the anti-instant-vote design are both well judged, and the zero-friction start is its best entry point. Two things need accepting: every message costs coins, and extending a match needs a subscription; on top of that, a high share of AI opponents makes real humans feel scarce. If you want to play long term with no ads and unlimited messages, $19.99/month is the natural upgrade; if you only want a taste, the free tier is enough.

Additional notes

Human Coins are a message allowance: every message costs 1 coin, 50 coins are refilled free every 720 minutes, and a correct guess pays 2 to 4 coins; there are also three top-up packs at 1000/2200/3600, but their entry points are currently unreachable and their prices are unconfirmed.

FAQ

Core gameplay is completely free and you can start without registering, though the free tier carries ads. Sending messages consumes Human Coins (50 free coins are refilled every 720 minutes); Premium at $19.99/month adds unlimited messages, unlimited match extensions and no ads.
